PROJECT
CECIL AVENUE STREETSCAPE REVITALISATION
Named Perth’s Southern CBD and serving as a vital link to Carousel shopping centre, the rejuvenation of Cecil Avenue’s streetscape is geared towards creating a resilient future-proofed public space. Central to this project is the aspiration to craft an urban environment that revolves around people and is well-connected to public transportation; a tree-lined ‘urban spine’.
Conceived by PLACE Lab with the intention of fostering a distinct sense of place and identity in the urban fabric, the street now prioritises pedestrian life over vehicular traffic. The project amalgamates two overarching identity themes – Riverine Canning and Multicultural Canning – to fashion a space that resonates with both narratives.
The City of Canning’s deep-rooted connection to the Canning River inspired initiatives to celebrate water ecology throughout the landscaping as a source of enjoyment for residents and visitors alike. Enveloping these areas is Stone Merchants Black Cockatoo kerbing, set in place using the Australian Bautek products BED, BOND and GROUT. Anchoring the pedestrian realm are Urbanstone’s pavers, which are set in place with Bautek’s JOINTSET, applied to all unbound paved areas.
Cecil Avenue now stands as an iconic destination, poised to be cherished for generations to come.
